2018-2019 EXECUTIVE BOARD
President - Nnamdi Egwuonwu
Office hours: Tuesday 4 - 5 PM
Nnamdi Egwuonwu serves as the 2018-2019 president of the National Association of Black Journalists. He’s responsible for overseeing the chapter and makes executive decisions regarding the planning and execution of the chapter's yearly curriculum. As president, he leads the bi-weekly meetings and manages the chapter’s relationship with the NABJ national office as well as other professional organizations. Nnamdi is from Atlanta, Georgia and is majoring in journalism with an emphasis in convergence television reporting. He’s interned for Turner Broadcasting for three years, spending two years working on entertainment marketing team for TNT and TBS before joining the Newsource division of CNN. Along with serving on the NABJ board, Nnamdi works as a content producer for Newsy, a reporter and anchor for KOMU-TV and an ambassador for the Missouri School of Journalism. He hopes to pursue an on-camera career in broadcast journalism post graduation.
Vice President - Noah McGee
Office hours: Monday 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Noah McGee serves as the 2018-2019 Vice President of NABJ-MU. He is responsible for the overseer of all events that NABJ-MU organizes and is responsible for organizing executive board bonding. Noah was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. He is a senior journalism major with an emphasis in magazine writing and a minor in sociology. He was an Emma L. Bowen Foundation Fellow during his first two years at MU interning at Fox 5 Atlanta as an operation intern and a creative services intern. Noah has worked at the Columbia Missourian as a Public Health and Safety beat reporter. He is currently writing stories for Vox Magazine through his Intermediate Writing class. He is also a residential advisor in Center Hall and works at the Reynolds Alumni Center as a Student Caller. Noah hopes to have a career that allows him to write about music, sports, clothes, movies and many other topics having to deal with arts and culture.
Commitee Chair - Allison Holmes
Office hours: Monday 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Allison Holmes serves as the 2018-19 NABJ MU Committee Chair. Allison is a senior from Sugar Land, Texas. She is double majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communication and Business with an emphasis in Management. This past summer, Allison was an IRTS Summer Fellow in New York City and worked at Great Big Story. She also previously worked at Walton Isaacson Multicultural Advertising Agency.
After college, Allison hopes to work in the tech industry on the business side.
Vice Commitee Chair - Tatyana Presley
Office hours: Thursday 11 am - 12 pm
Tatyana Presley serves as the 2018-2019 Vice Committee Chair of NABJ-MU. She is responsible for collaborating with the Committee Chair to organize and manage the chapter's staple events. These events include Unity Conference, Media Tour, and Spring Forward. Tatyana grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. She is a junior Broadcast Journalism major with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Some of her best traits are that she is a great listener, very understanding, and always open to new experiences. She has participated in Mizzou Alternative Breaks volunteering in Arizona, MUTV where she covered MU sports, and Minorities in Sports which is a networking organization that Tatyana helped start up her freshman year. She prides herself on being a great storyteller and wants to pursue a career that reflects that. She genuinely wants the best for everyone and believes that it doesn’t matter where you start but where you finish that counts.
Treasurer - Sydney Walton
Office hours: Wednesday 9:30 - 10:30 AM
Sydney Walton serves as the Treasurer for the 2018-19 school year. Her responsibilities include managing the chapter’s funds and helping with budgeting events such as Unity Conference and Media Tour. She is a junior studying Convergence Journalism with and emphasis in Television Reporting and minoring in French. Sydney is from the south suburbs of Chicago and enjoys listening to music and watching movies in her free time.
Public Relations Chair - Gabri Mays
Office hours: Tuesday 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Gabri Mays serves as the 2018-2019 Public Relations Chair of NABJ-MU. She's in charge of creating and managing all social media and ad promotions. Gabri is a senior majoring in Journalism, with an emphasis in Strategic Communication - Art Direction. As a native of Atlanta, Georgia, Gabri loves everything about creative direction, photography, and personal branding. This past summer, Gabri interned in Washington, DC for Weber Shandwick as well as continuing to create for her personal website and photography brand, Gabri Marcia Photography. Gabri hopes to one day become a creative director for a brand or advertising agency.
Mentorship Chair - Ariana Jefferson
Office hours: Wednesday 11 am - 12 pm
Ariana is a strong communicator hailing from Houston, Texas while making a pit stop in Columbia, Missouri to continue learning and taking the initiative to strategically execute and meet all her goals through the Missouri School of Journalism.
Ariana is passionate about collaborating with others to set these goals, while continuing to seek new experiences everyday.
Secretary - Elise Brisco
Office hours: Wednesday 12 PM - 1 PM
Elise Brisco serves as the 2018-2019 Secretary of NABJ-MU. Hailing from the Bluff City she came to Mizzou to pursue broadcast journalism and political science. She has served campus through organizations like Journalism Ambassadors, Legion of Black Collegians, and United Ambassadors. Elise is a member of the Delta Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Elise’s goal with journalism is to create a relatable platform for minority youth to grasp and take an active role in the political process.
Sergeant At Arms - Merriah Akindele
Office hours: Tuesday 11 am - 12 pm
Merriah Akindele serves as the 2018-2019 Sergeant-at-Arms of NABJ-MU. She is responsible for ensuring that the organization upholds the constitution and has close ties to the Legion of Black Collegians, and is a jack of all trades, meaning he helps all members of the executive board.
Outreach Chair - Autumn Black
Office hours: Friday 9:15 - 10:15 am
Autumn Black serves as the Outreach Chair for the 2018-2019 school year.
